Questions are part of my job and have been for many years. “Where did the dinosaurs go?” That one is still around. “Where did Satan come from?” This one, too: “Where did Cain get his wife?”
Yes, parts of the Bible do raise questions. That should be no surprise, for this book contains the mind of God, describes things that are eternal, and questions are to be expected.
Unfortunately, answers to some of those – and others – are answered by man in ways that do not give honor to either the Book itself or the ultimate author of that Book, God, the Creator of the universe, the ultimate Being, the great “I Am” of all of history. Those answers should be given with deepest respect for God and the Bible, and must not be contrived or merely be the result of man’s imagination.
Speaking of imagination, one of the “big” questions for some is really of little significance in the greater scheme of life, but people still want “answers”:
Why Are Fire Trucks Always Red?
Yes, that question, along with others, crossed my desk several years ago, and it included its own prepared answer right in the envelope with it. Here it is:
“Fire trucks have four wheels and eight men. Four and eight make twelve. There are twelve inches in a foot. A foot is a ruler. Queen Elizabeth is a ruler, and the “Queen Elizabeth” is the largest ship on the seven seas. Seas have fish. Fish have fins. The Finns fought the Russians. The Russians are the “reds”. Fire trucks are always “rushin”. Therefore, fire trucks are always red.”
Did you get that? Does it make perfect sense? Why, of course it makes sense – to some folks. The problem is that it touches neither top, side, nor bottom of the question. And, the question itself is not a sensible question.
Is Satan “a fallen angel”? The Bible does not answer that question. Could be, but nothing concrete there. Did Cain marry his “sister”? The Bible says Eve was “mother of all living,” Genesis 3:20, but does not tell who Cain’s wife’s mother was. How important is this question? I’m sure you know it is quite unimportant, and that is probably why it is not discussed in the Bible.
The subject of dinosaurs is in another context. We know they lived, and we know man saw them, Genesis 1:21. Drawings of dinosaurs by man have been found in many places including Havasupai Canyon in Northern Arizona. Human footprints have been found fossilized within dinosaur footprints.
But what happened to cause their extinction? Some say the flood of Noah’s day. Was it the “asteroid” as evolutionists claim? Once again, the Bible does not say. Is it possible that the demise of dinosaurs does not need to be answered?
Why doesn’t God answer these questions for us? Some are so arrogant that they have decided that if God does not answer their questions, then He either must not know the answer, or – there is no God.
The logic of those conclusions sounds much like the “fire trucks” story we mentioned earlier.
If we never in this life know who Cain’s wife was, we will not be diminished either in God’s or man’s eyes.
What if we never see the footprint of a dinosaur? Are we no longer of value to our families and ourselves? That is an absurd viewpoint!
If we will read and study our Bible we will find answers to the most important, the most significant of all questions:
Who Am I?
Why Am I Here?
What Lies Ahead for all of us?
Those and related questions are answered in the Word of God. Who are we? We are God’s children, God’s creation, and we are loved by God, John 3:16, 1 John 4:8. Why are we here? To glorify God, Isaiah 43:7. To prepare us for our heavenly home. To tell others of that home and bring them with us, Philippians 2:15, 1 Peter 2:21,
1 Timothy 4:12.
What lies ahead for us?
We must stand before God in
judgment,
John 12:48,
Hebrews 9:27. Then – an eternity with either Satan or God. Then we will not care about Cain’s wife, Satan’s origin, or why fire trucks are “always red."
