A FATHER WHO ENJOYS HIS CHILDREN

Most fathers take great delight in watching their children accomplish some great task or in hearing about some good deed they have performed. Whether it has to do with our children learning to share of their own choosing, or their making good on a promise, or their telling the truth even when it will adversely affect them, fathers (and mothers) end up finding a lot of pleasure in knowing they are growing up right.

Just like a godly father on earth, our Heavenly Father takes great delight in what we accomplish and achieve. However, in Psalm 147:10, we read, “He delights not in the strength of the horse; he takes not pleasure in the legs of a man.” God does not always find pleasure in what we think is great or wonderful. While I enjoy sports, it seems God doesn’t delight much in “the legs of a man.” Instead, as a Father, God values and enjoys most those things that are achievable and attainable by everyone. According to Psalm 147:11, He finds pleasure “in them that fear him” and “in those that hope in his mercy”. In Acts 10:35 we learn that if we fear God and work righteousness, then we are “accepted with him”. Down deep inside, that really brings a lot of peace in my life. When it comes to sports, I cannot run very fast. On an I.Q. test, my scores are hardly noteworthy. Artistically - well, I can barely spell that word. While each of these has their value in God’s creation, not all of us are so endowed. However, all of us can take heart knowing that God takes the most pleasure in something we can all achieve
