GOD'S DYNAMITE

In 1864, a nitroglycerine factory belonging to Dr. Alfred Nobel exploded, killing his brother Emil. In an attempt to make his factories safer, Dr. Nobel stumbled upon an invention that would allow nitroglycerine to be used for explosive purposes in a controlled setting. In searching for the word to describe this new discovery, he settled upon the Greek word dunamis, which when transliterated into English became known as dynamite. In Romans 1:16 the Bible uses this same term to refer to the gospel of Jesus Christ. There it is said that the “gospel is God’s power (dunamis) unto salvation.”

Truly, the gospel is very powerful. It is the means by which people come to know what Jesus did for them at Calvary. It is the source for learning about spiritual freedom (John 8:32). By this powerful gospel, hearts that are hardened by sin can be touched and caused to repent (Acts 2:37-41). The explosive power of God’s word will restore harmony to homes and bring peace to our communities (Romans 1:15). It can transform lives and save souls (James 1:21). God’s dynamite gives wisdom, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:15-17). It will cause a sinner to leave his house in the dark of night to be baptized (Acts 16:25-33). Indeed, the powerful gospel will fill us with hope, courage, and conviction (Acts 20:32).

Come and experience for yourself God’s dynamite at work at the Dripping Springs church of Christ. We believe deeply in its power to save and its message of hope.
