PRAY FOR OUR NATION
The horrifying and senseless acts of terrorism committed against the United States have once again reminded us that we live in an imperfect world. As of Tuesday morning news reports have revealed that terrorist attacks were waged on both the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. No matter how progressive man thinks he has become, we still live in a world of violence and hate. While this tragedy alarmed and crushed my heart as I watched the events unfold, a deeper and more depressive sense of foreboding came over me when I realized my twelve year old son had actually witnessed live on television the second explosion. My parents and grandparents knew the fear of an oppressive force waiting to attack American soil during the past world wars, but my generation and my children have never been exposed to such uncertainties. Even now as I continue to write, more breaking news is being reported and the broken and anguished voice of Peter Jennings further confirms my own concerns about the safety and peace of our world. Like never before, we need to be in constant prayer and always on vigilance, not only for the security and preservation of life, but more importantly for the salvation of our souls. Life is fragile and always uncertain. Therefore we must always look to God and His eternal blessings for our stabilizing force in this tumultuous and violent world. Let us therefore pray for the families and friends of the innocent victims who so tragically and needlessly died in this dastardly and cowardly act of violence. Let us pray for our Nation, our President, and our leaders. Let us pray for the peace and safety of our citizens and the world. Let us pray for our children that they might grow up in a righteous and peaceful nation. And yes, let us even pray for our enemies. Let us pray that all will turn to God who is our rock, our fortress, and our strength. |
