SITTING NEXT TO CHRIST

Over the years, I’ve attended a number of banquets and special events where there was a prior seating arrangement. Special speakers, dignitaries, and the like were usually seated in a prominent place near the front or on a stage. To be seated near one of these dignitaries would be considered a great honor.

In Revelation 3:21-22, Jesus told the church at Laodicea that if they could overcome their present trials and challenges, they could sit with Him in His throne just as He overcame and is now sitting on the throne. After His resurrection, Christ ascended to the throne where He now sits at the right hand of God (Acts 2:32-36). Christ is at this very hour sitting on the throne of David (equal to the throne of God, 1 Chronicles 28:5 and 29:23) reigning from heaven. As the Dignitary above all dignitaries, He has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18), and when a Christian overcomes, he or she can sit next to Christ on the throne. In one sense, the faithful child of God sits there even now (Revelation 5:10, Romans 5:17, 2 Timothy 2:12, Ephesians 2:5-6), but at death, he or she will reign forever (the symbolic meaning of a thousand years in Rev. 20:6). What an honor! What a blessing to be seated in such a prominent place. I’ve always wondered what it would feel like to be seated near a dignitary. As a child of God, now I know.
