TRULY RELIGIOUS
What does it mean to be religious? I frequently encounter many definitions regarding this subject. Everything from superstition to asceticism is often brought under the huge umbrella of being religious. For the Christian, the epistle of James makes it clear that pure religion involves action (John 1:17). Being careful about what we say and how we say something is a reflection of our faith (James 1:26). Our attitude toward and treatment of others is a reflection of our devotion (James 2). Our unwavering steadfastness in the midst of strife is a reflection of our commitment (James 1). Our works are a reflection of our justification (James 2). Our submersion is a reflection of our acceptance with God (James 4). And, our prayers are a reflection of our beliefs (James 5).
What about you? Are you busy in the work of the Lord? Are you helping the poor and taking care of the widows and orphans? Is your speech pure and godly? Are you obedient to the will of God? Do you pray in faith without wavering? Become truly religious by being religiously true to the precepts of God.
